Someone said, "A critic is a man who prefers the indolence of opinion to the trials of action." It is easy to be a critic of others; it is hard to give an honest evaluation of our own efforts.
We have all been criticized. The question is how we should react to criticism.
Answer the critic. It is easy to make a quick and poorly thought out response. Often our re- sponse has little to do with the truth and lends itself to rationalization, rather examination. Even we have a weighed and measured response we must wonder if and how we should respond.
Ignore the critic. Ignoring people may seem like a good idea. But does it really improve the situ- ation. It would be unwise if the critic is sincere or has authority over us.
Critique the Critic. Perhaps you may want to criticize the critic. You simply look for some short- coming in their life or work. This is simply a way to deflect the attention from ourselves and is really futile.
Did you know the Bible tells us how to deal with critics and none of the answer above fit its recom- mendation? What does it say?
"For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men." (1 Peter 2:15 NIV)
"Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." (1 Peter 2:1112 NIV)
How do we answer a critic, not with words, but with actions.
